Punk poster design for Polyfest

Polyfest punk poster design for London gig – In Memory of the late great Poly Styrene of X Ray Spex.

Gig performance at The Dublin Castle in Camden to pay tribute to the late punk icon Poly Styrene.

“Inspired after watching a very early gig by the Sex Pistols in an empty hall on Hastings Pier, playing a set of cover songs. Poly then put an ad in the music papers for ‘young punx who want to stick it together’ to form a band. From this, she became the singer with X-Ray Spex, Poly Styrene.  Further, a name she chose from the ‘Yellow Pages’ when she was ‘looking for a name of the time – something plastic”. Read more

The punk poster design was inspired by old punk fanzine cut out newspaper letters. This all was incorporated with band photos and logos.

Artists performing were; Dr And The Medics, Anita Harris, Ricky Vallance (Tell Laura I Love Her) + Freak Party (Ex Smiths). Other Manchester indie band Intastella with Pil legend Jah Wobble. Together with Gary Clail, Dave Barbarossa (Adam And The Ants/Bow Wow Wow/Republica) + Dominique Oliver. The Brakes, plus an inspiring Youth (Killing Joke/The Orb). Other bands included; The Vapors, Saffron-Republica, Then Jerico, Linda Lewis, and Imagination Feat. Erroll Kennedy, Toto Cuelo, Knox (The Vibrators), Melanie Williams (Sub Sub) and Beautiful People. Later on, The Shakespearos with Tug (Basement Jaxx) + Dust Junkys Collective (Nicky Tunes). The Homosexuals + The Stems (Ex The Fall, Pixies, Gorilla, Elbow), Nick Aslam, Mankind (Dr Who), David Live (Bowie Tribute), and Bobbie Peru.
